When a young person comes to VHBG after a housing crisis or failed foster placement, they find something they may have never had: stability, safety, and someone who believes in them. When you give monthly, you are there for every stage of their journey; from stabilization, to skill building, to transitioning to a loving family or their own apartment.
Unlike Medicaid-driven models, our teaching-focused approach puts youth, not insurance requirements, at the center. Your monthly gift helps us plan ahead so we are ready when a young person needs us, with resources they can use to truly transform their lives.

Monthly Giving Frequently Asked Questions
How do I join the Founders Circle monthly giving program?
- When you make a gift, toggle to the Monthly option. Choose from existing options or enter a custom amount to give, choose your preferred payment method, and enter your payment details. The amount you specify will be charged automatically to your preferred payment method once a month, providing stable and reliable support for VHBG programs all year.
What is my impact when I give monthly?
- Your monthly donation funds our most urgent needs, keeping the electricity and internet on in our independent living homes, putting dinner on the table in our group homes, providing necessary school supplies to our students, covering the cost of new bedding and seasonally appropriate clothes for youth just arriving, and more.
Here are some examples of your monthly impact:
- $10 a month provides awards, incentives, and recognition to build confidence and keep a young person progressing towards their goals
- $15 a month supplies students with pens, notebooks, and classroom essentials
- $20 a month funds birthday and holiday celebrations with treats, gifts and fun
- $25 a month provides healthy breakfasts, lunches and dinners
- $50 a month supports youth mental health services
How do credit card processing fees work when I give monthly vs. annually?
- VHBG pays slightly higher payment processing fees when you give monthly vs. annually because of the increased number of transactions but the difference is negligible. Our credit card processing partner charges us about 3% + $0.30 on each transaction, or 1% + $0.30 per transaction for direct debit (bank draft).
- We’d still rather you give a smaller amount monthly than a larger gift once a year. Why? Because it is a reliable funding stream for us, allowing us to maintain ongoing operations and programs. It is also one of the most efficient ways to support our mission. Automatic monthly donations reduce our administrative cost so that more of your gift goes directly to our youth, with less time spent processing donations and less money spent mailing printed renewal materials.
Will I receive monthly or annual receipts for tax purposes?
- Both. You will receive emailed receipts each month as well as a yearly acknowledgement of your total donations no later than January 31, in time for tax season.
What if I need to downgrade or cancel?
- You’re in control. To lower or cancel your automatic monthly donation at any time, email philanthropy@vhbg.org or call us at (804) 270-6566 x1190. No questions asked.
- Can I upgrade my monthly donation later?
- Absolutely! Please email philanthropy@vhbg.org or call us at (804) 270-6566 x1190 to change your monthly giving level at any time.
